Paige Follmann Robinson began her art career on a foundation of still life and realistic painting, which informs her current abstract work. She is largely a self-taught artist with a tenacious approach to life and making art. At the age of six, she won first place in a book fair competition for a book that she wrote and illustrated while living in her hometown of Dallas, Texas. Her love of art continued as a young adult, leading her to pursue studies in art and advertising. Paige’s work has continued to evolve over her career and serves as a way to manage the challenges that come with life, both as an artist and as an observer of art which is reflective of her desire to stay curious, grow, and explore.

Paige begins each work with several thin layers of her chosen medium of oil paint, oil stick, and charcoal pencil. With her intentional and expressive approach, she abstracts shape and color to depict the connection between humanity and nature. Layer by layer, the themes of her work emerge from the canvas. She juxtaposes clean, sharp, simple lines with blurred edges of shapes that move lyrically across the canvas resulting in subtle layers of rich color that create depth. She uses the textural expression of these lines and shapes to express her approach to life and visually communicate her unique perspective. Being a natural observer, it feels cathartic to sit and reflect on the environment as seen through her eyes.

For Paige, art is a powerful tool to express individuality. It is a way to be seen and to create the human connection that is vital to our health and happiness. It is reflective of the states of mind that we all experience- peace and tranquility, as well as turmoil, uncertainty, and doubt. The connections that viewers feel when viewing her paintings bring a level of joy to the experience and creation of the work. Paige doesn’t choose to paint, she has to paint. It’s a place of freedom, reflection and connection between humans and nature.
